French Actor Gérard Depardieu Faces Rape Charges

PARIS—A French insightful adjudicator has brought starter charges of assault and rape against Gérard Depardieu, an entertainer once viewed as the essence of French film.

The appointed authority recorded the charges in December, claiming Mr. Depardieu assaulted an entertainer in the mid year of 2018, a French legal authority said Wednesday. The entertainer, a lady in her 20s, hasn't been distinguished.

Under the French general set of laws, the documenting of starter charges demonstrates that the exploring judge accepts there is sufficient proof against Mr. Depardieu for specialists to extend their examination of the allegations. The adjudicator could then choose to drop the charges or request him to stand preliminary.

"Mr. Depardieu is and remains assumed honest," said the entertainer's attorney Hervé Temime. "He firmly challenges the allegations against him."

The entertainer brought a protest against Mr. Depardieu, 72-years of age, in August 2018, saying he explicitly attacked and assaulted her on two events prior that month at his home in the upscale sixth arrondissement of Paris.
